Located 15 minutes from our guest rooms, the Alqueva dam is a huge artificial lake of 250 km2 built on the Guadiana river, in the Alentejo region. It’s the ideal destination for a family or romantic weekend in Alentejo. The construction project dates from the dictatorship of Salazar but, the works really started only in the 1990s. Put in water in 2002, this dam became a major tourist attraction of the region. Intended for both the supply of electricity and the irrigation of the region’s crops, this dam offers a multitude of sports and recreational activities. You’ll appreciate with the family its praia fluvial (fine sandy beach), perfectly maintained and very well equipped with a huge free parking, restaurant, terrace, playground for children; you’ll go on a cruise, rent a motor boat, explore its banks or finally you can do fishing for black bass, walleye, carp and other barbel. From the 2021 season, we will offer guided fishing trips from our fully equipped bass boat. Follow our information on our website www.vivenda-descollaz.com.
